Bangkok, Thailand (April 21, 2026) — Sri Lankan author Asanga Abeyagoonasekera was hosted at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand(FCCT) in Bangkok on the 20th April 2026, where he presented and discussed his latest book, Winds of Change: Geopolitics at the Crossroads of South and Southeast Asia.
The event brought together senior journalists, policy observers, and members of the diplomatic and academic community for an in-depth conversation on emerging geopolitical dynamics shaping the Indo-Pacific. Discussions focused on key themes from the book, including intensifying great power rivalry, shifting regional alignments, and the broader implications of ongoing global tensions—particularly developments linked to Iran and their impact on energy security and economic stability.
During the session, Abeyagoonasekera highlighted how geopolitical shifts are increasingly affecting everyday lives across the region, emphasizing the growing importance of strategic navigation for smaller and medium size states such as Thailand and Sri Lanka amid competing global interests. The discussion also examined the evolving roles of major powers and the challenges faced by South and Southeast Asian countries in maintaining autonomy within a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape.
The evening featured a dynamic exchange of perspectives, reflecting the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand’s role as a leading platform for dialogue on international affairs. Abeyagoonasekera expressed his appreciation to George Yeo former foreign minister of Singapore for reviewing the book, Panu Wongcha-um, and the FCCT for the invitation and for facilitating a timely and engaging discussion.
Winds of Change draws on extensive regional research and provides a forward-looking analysis of geopolitical risks and opportunities across South and Southeast Asia. The book is published by World Scientific Singapore and available in all leading bookstores.
