Colombo, Sri Lanka — 11th August, 2026 Asanga Abeyagoonasekera, Executive Director of the South Asia Foresight Network (SAFN), presented his latest book, Winds of Change: Geopolitics at the Crossroads of South and Southeast Asia, to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dr.Harini Amarasuriya, during a meeting at the Parliament of Sri Lanka on 23rd July 2026.

Published by World Scientific Singapore, Winds of Change examines the rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape across South and Southeast Asia, with particular attention to the strategic forces reshaping the Indo-Pacific. The book explores how emerging economic, political, technological and security dynamics are transforming the region and creating both challenges and opportunities for countries such as Sri Lanka.

The book is also catalogued by leading regional and academic institutions, including the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute in Southeast Asia and Blackwell in the United Kingdom.

During the meeting, Abeyagoonasekera and Prime Minister Amarasuriya exchanged views on the geopolitical developments shaping South and Southeast Asia and their implications for Sri Lanka. The discussion also touched on the importance of understanding regional transformation through a longer-term strategic and foresight-oriented perspective.

“It was a privilege to present Winds of Change to Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and to exchange views on the geopolitical challenges and opportunities shaping our region,” said Abeyagoonasekera. “Sri Lanka is situated at a critical intersection of South Asia and the wider Indo-Pacific. Understanding the forces reshaping this region is essential as the country navigates a period of profound economic, political and strategic transformation.”

Abeyagoonasekera expressed his admiration for Prime Minister Amarasuriya’s commitment to Sri Lanka’s economic and social transformation and wished her success in leading the country during this pivotal period.

The meeting reflects SAFN’s broader commitment to strengthening strategic foresight and informed dialogue on the forces shaping South Asia and its connections with Southeast Asia. Through research, policy engagement and international networks, SAFN seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of the emerging risks and opportunities confronting the region.

Winds of Change builds on this perspective by examining South and Southeast Asia not as separate strategic theatres, but as increasingly interconnected spaces within a rapidly changing Indo-Pacific order.
